Title Town
Rockford Lutheran has both their boys and girls teams competing in the championship games. The last team to do this is Bloomington Central Catholic in 2009, when the girls team were champions and the boys team finished as runner-up. Rockford Lutheran’s girls are in their first year of competition at the State Farm Holiday Classic.! !
Streak Continues
Rockford Lutheran’s boys team has now won 11 straight games in Classic play. A victory in the championship game would tie them for the second longest winning streak in Classic play with the 1981-1983 Galesburg boy’s team.! !
Repeat Performances
Rockford Lutheran and Bloomington Central Catholic tee it up in a rematch of last year’s championship game of the Boys Small School Division. Normal University High also returns to the title game in the Large School Girls Division after falling in the title game a year ago.
More Record Breaking Performances
Rock Island tied a tournament record for 3-pointers with 13 in an 80-70 Boys Large School semifinal win over Champaign Centennial. Montana State recruit Tyler Hall was 7-of-7 from behind the arc. The two teams also sent a record for combined 3-pointers in a game by two teams with 21.
Stanford Olympia downed Rock Falls 72-63 in a Small School Boys consolation bracket game in three overtimes, tying the mark for the longest game, the last one in 2007 between Peoria Christian and Addison Driscoll.
Bloomington Central Catholic’s Sydney Shanks moved into the record book with 34 points against Rock Falls, tying her for the fifth best individual game scoring performance in the girl’s divisions.
