RECORD WATCH

Camp Pt. Central/Augusta Southeastern’s Laney Lantz moved into the third spot in State Farm Holiday Classic career scoring with 26- and 16-point performances on Day 3. Lantz finished her four-year career with 304 points, trailing only Annawan’s Jayde and Celina VanHyfte, who occupy the top two spots.

RECORD WATCH … TWO

Missed on day two was a 40-point performance by Champaign St. Thomas More’s Riley Morris, which tied him for ninth in individual scoring performances with three other players.

RECORD WATCH … THREE

Yesterday’s Large School Girls consolation bracket game between Springfield and Normal West, an 84-82 win by Springfield, set multiple records including:

• Most Points, Game – Both Teams – 166 (previous record was 160)
• Most Points, Half – Both Teams – 88 (previous record was 81)
• Top Ten Scoring Game – Springfield – 84 (4th best overall)
• Top Ten Scoring Game – Normal West – 82 (5th best overall)

RECORD WATCH … FOUR

Machesney Park Harlem set a Classic record for 3-point field goals in a game with 15 in a 81-73 semifinal loss to Chicago Kenwood. The previous record of 14 was shared by four teams.

HONOR THY FATHER

Jalen Thorpe, of the late North Lawndale coach Lewis Thorpe, hit two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to lead the Phoenix to a 35-33 victory over Metamora and the Large School Boys consolation bracket championship. It was his only two points in the game.

ASSIST NORMAL

When both teams showed up in home jerseys for the 7th-place game in the Large School Girls bracket, something had to give. Solution – a search of Normal Community’s storage area located Lady Iron practice jersey’s, which Simeon wore over their home white uniforms so the game could continue as scheduled.

ANOTHER NORMAL HAPPENING

In the Large School Girls bracket, Normal Community’s Abby Feit passed the 1,000-point threshold with a 19-point performance in the Lady Iron’s win over Geneseo and the consolation bracket title.

CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT FAMILIARITY

Bloomington Central Catholic’s girls team extends their record with their 10th appearance in a championship game when they meet Rochester in the Small School Girls title game.

On the boys’ side, Bloomington Central Catholic also extends the record to 10 with their impending matchup with Quincy Notre Dame, who will make their ninth appearance in the title match.

TITLE TOWN

The Large School Girls 3rd-place game features Morton and Peoria Richwoods, holders of the past four Illinois Class 3A championships.
