Championship Game Rematch?
Rematch possibilities loom in the Small School Boys and Large School Girls Bracket. Rockford Lutheran and Bloomington Central Catholic will have to survive tough games in Monday’s semifinals, as will Springfield and Normal University High. Rockford Lutheran and Springfield are the defending champs in their division, respectively.
Record Book
Donovan Oliver of Kewanee dropped 38 points in an overtime victory over Minonk Fieldcrest in Saturday’s quarterfinal of the Small School Boys Bracket. The performance tied Oliver with four others for the seventh best scoring performance in the Boy’s Classic history. Geneseo’s girls joined 24 other teams in the record book with a scoreless 2nd quarter in their quarterfinal loss to Morton.
Growing Up at the Classic
I wonderful article by local Bloomington Pantagraph sports editor Randy Kindred about Chris Highland and Tim Glover, two Classic volunteers that have both received all-american accolades in their respective sports at Illinois State University. Highland is a member of the Redbird team that will be competing for the NCAA FCS National Football Championship on January 10th in Frisco, Texas. Newcomers
Each bracket contains teams that weren’t in the Classic in 2013. The Small School Girls Bracket features newcomer Rockford Lutheran against Fairbury Prairie Central, and the Large School Girls Bracket pits first-time entrant Chicago North Lawndale against Normal University High. On the boys side, Kewanee returns for the first time since 2003, and takes on local entry Bloomington Central Catholic. Finally, first time entry Edwardsville takes on Normal Community in a battle of 4A schools in the Large School Bracket.
